It was again a pleasure to be a part of the annual benefit for the Veterans Express Shuttle Service. Thanks to all of the event volunteers and organizers for doing a great job. We’ll see you again next year!

Benefit concert raises thousands for Veterans Express
People in San Luis Obispo enjoyed popular music this Sunday and helped out a great cause at the same time.
The Veterans Express Benefit Concert brought a record crowd to the SLO Grange Hall to hear music played by Louie Ortega with the Rio Salinas band. Greg Smith, who was a member of The Eagles, also performed.
The event was a fundraiser for Veterans Express, which provides free rides for veterans to their medical appointments. The program has been supporting veterans on the Central Coast for about six years.
“I can remember back three years ago, we almost stopped the service because we were running out of money,” Ride-On Transportation executive director Mark Shaffer said. “Now, because of donations and events like this, we have our operation for the next year covered, which is very exciting.”
Veterans Express provides about 150 rides to veterans every month. Sunday’s event raised between $4,000 and $5,000.
